Week update

What a glorious week!  The weather was summer like; we enjoyed several days at the park and numerous playdates with Dean, Olivia, Ava and Mary Jane.  We have been making efforts to get together with some of Shaye's friends from daycare and its been very nice.  Shaye also went into daycare this week while I was off and I enjoyed some time for myself to go to the spa, shopping, do spring cleaning and some yardwork.
An update on the binky:  The binky is still gone (well given to the babies at daycare who need them).  Shaye has handled it fairly well.  But I know why parents let their kids hang onto the binky...it is just easier.  Shaye has been much crabbier and more difficult to get to sleep without the pacifier in her crib and she has been waking up earlier.  Each day gets a little better.

Banning the binky!!

We tried once before at Christmas Shaye decided she was giving her binkies to the babies at daycare.  We played up that the babies came and got them and left her a doll and all.  It lasted one night and we gave binky back by the next nap.  Feeling quite defeated.

I hate the binky which was now only for nap and nighttime in Shaye's crib (meaning she naps at daycare fine without it---peer pressure is a great thing).  But as per Shaye "I still little at home; I need my binky in my cribie"  Yesterday afternoon we had a hell of a tamper tantrum and mommy said if you don't put on your pants now I am taking your binky's away!!!! (we were trying to get out of the house to the park and the usual getting dressed frustration just got to me).  So I took binky's away, and after much crying and screaming forced pants on and had a nice afternoon out.  Come 7 o'clock and no binky's in crib, major trauma broke out and I felt horrible, just horrible, but in less than 30 minutes she did pull together (just before I broke out in tears) and slept all night.  I then of course did not sleep because I obsessed on the thought that she was now sucking her thumb and causing a whole new problem (checked on her and listened for hours for thumb sucking)----I'm nuts!  Well so far so good.  She slept until about 5:30 am (early for her by 11/2 hours but given the circumstances she got cuddles in the couch for the next hour or so).
She was very proud of herself and here we are onto night 2 and she fell asleep with ease.  Can it be binky has gone away???  I pray and hope and have promised a trip to Toysrus if this holds out!
I am off this week (hence the longer blogs) and noticed my mommy day was plagued buy several 5-6 year olds with binky's in their mouths; every where I turned there they were.  So...was it a sign...am I nuts?....Weekends are potty....Weekdays are binky.... Who am I?  Oh yeah "Mommy JoJo"  That explains it.

Dominated by the potty

This weekend it seems we have been dominated by the potty.  Saturday all plans seemed perfect we were meeting 2 friends at the park; shaye took a mega-nap and was ready for fun.  The usual battle to get dressed began and when I asked her is she needed to go potty:  I got reprimanded "NO I NO NEED TO GO!"  This question and answer went on for at least 8 bouts and I just didn't feel like fighting anymore.  Honestly, I didn't want to wrestle a 2 year old on the toilet.  I should have.....  about 5 minutes into our ride to the park Shaye calls from the back "I went potty".  We told her to hold it until we got to the park.  Well, Shaye has been using her tenses and verbs better and she "went"potty.  And I never replenished the pants in the stash of emergency clothes in the car.  So home we went cleaned up everything and managed to get to the park for some fun.  Although my irritation level had peaked.
Forward to Sunday going to a birthday party, 5 minutes into that drive Shaye says "I need to go Potty"  so this time we quickly pull over and set up the travel potty and stand beside her as all the traffic goes by for over 10 minutes!  Are you done...are you done....are you done yet???  Luckily she did eventually go or I was going to strangle her :)
I know this is part of toddlerdom and maybe I am just crabby because she has been waking up every night between 3:30 and 4:30 am because she pees in her pull up and wants to be changed. I thought we were doing good she was sleeping through the night so well, but the comes potty training and my sleeping through the night disappears....  So maybe I am just tired...but I  hear that continues for at least another 18 years (hopefully we are still not peeing on the side of the rode by then).

Do you Bunco?

So I was looking for a girl's night out thing and Maureen sucked me into Bunco.  I wanted to get out and didn't care what it was.  So I showed up for my first Bunco back in February a bit apprehensive.  But get 12 women together, some wine and a pair of dice and good times flow.  If you told me years ago I would look forward to "Bunco"  I'd say never, but yes I am here to admit I am a Buncoer and enjoying it.  Its at my house next month (Friday 5/2 7:30) and I may need some subs; anyone interested???
